Wholesale Fashion Jewelry – 5 Shortcuts to Retail Success

Something in the human spirit is always itching for independence and this itch translates to a constant flow of new entrepreneurs that so often gravitate towards fashion jewelry. What is so irresistible about this accessory? Beyond the high profit margins that wholesale fashion jewelry can open for retailers lies an intrinsic beauty that creates truly wearable art. Yes, wholesale fashion jewelry offers plenty of profit potential that enables retailers to turn small investments into the longest mark-up in the fashion industry, but the magic of fashion jewelry’s beauty stops consumers in their tracks and this magnetic attraction, more than anything else, brings the entrepreneur into retail sales specializing in jewelry.

Many of these new fashion jewelry businesses begin on the simplest level with retailers buying wholesale fashion jewelry and presenting it to friends and co-workers. Easy sales and new found profits ignite a fire to grow the business, but what step comes next? As a twenty-five year veteran of the wholesale fashion jewelry industry, I have seen business after business start in this way and often grow to become the major supplier of fashion accessories in a community. The learning curve never ends as fashion jewelry evolves as well as retail tactics, but some things never change and these key techniques will have positive impact on your fashion jewelry business.

But first, how are you going to sell your treasure of wholesale fashion jewelry? Outgoing personalities love the active sale. Visit businesses, do parties, set up in flea markets or craft shows, and bubble over with enthusiasm as you introduce stunning fashion jewelry to consumers. All they need is a crowd and permission to set up. Bingos, festivals, school picnics, car shows, sporting events-the list is endless. Overhead is low and actually stops when not engaged in sales activities. But so does sales, so many prefer brick and mortar businesses with a higher overhead, but continuing business even when you’re not there.

The quieter, methodical personality may not be up to this bubbling enthusiasm and choose a passive sales mode. Successful businesses often build without the entrepreneur ever engaged in active sales to the consumer. They connect with beauty shops and other locations to provide fashion jewelry on consignment with the owner profiting as well as the entrepreneur. Methodical personalities think out the details like how to handle shrinkage of missing items with no sales recorded. Increasing price and lowering consignment fees compensates for losses when fashion jewelry has open exposure that can result in more shrinkage. The flip side is reduced sales in secure environments like showcases or behind the counter, which reduce shrinkage, but unfortunately, also sales.

Okay, both personalities have a selling method they are comfortable with and both can expand their business with online marketing by working on websites while their sales support them as the websites grow, climbing higher in the results of major search engines. But what about the 5 shortcuts to retail success? They boil down to pricing, selection, presentation, knowledge, and benefits.

-First comes pricing the wholesale fashion jewelry. New entrepreneurs often feel shock waves as they see the wholesale cost compared to retail prices they paid as consumers. The first temptation is undercut all the competition. Stop there!-because fashion jewelry is cyclical and low prices generate low profits that don’t carry retailers through the tough times. Do you want to spend all your earnings on restocking wholesale fashion jewelry and covering overhead? Of course not, you want to grow your business and make a profit and pricing is important.

Retail uses a term called keystone-a nice word for doubling the wholesale price. Make keystone the minimum for mark-up in fashion jewelry and look for the items that give you room for far longer mark-ups. The upside has no rules. Let your intuition guide you because prices can always come down, but it is difficult to go up.

-Next comes selection and this is a factor that major retailers like fine department stores are always struggling to get right. Stroll through one and you will see they have reduced staff on the floor so selection often has to sell itself. The fine department stores need “no miss” choices and have resources, forecasts, statistics, and trained buyers to make these decisions. Small retailers don’t need to be discouraged because this isn’t rocket science and you are closer to the clientele in your location than any major retailer.

Making the perfect selection rests on the age and demographics of your main customer base. Add this to the fashion trends of the season and you are close to perfect. How do you keep up with all those rapid changing fashion trends? Well rapid change is a myth. Trends change very slowly-often over a decade. Yes, colors and subtle adjustments occur every season, but today we are in the midst of classic trends that started in the early 21st century and have a promising future. More on this when we cover knowledge.

-Now for presentation-making the fashion jewelry look special. Ever notice how necklaces clumped together on a tee bar on top of a showcase seem to scream “I’m on sale” while the stuff in the showcase whispers “I’m special”. That’s presentation and how it has changed even for fine department stores.

Teri Agins in The End of Fashion details how department stores that were once “the first visual contact with fashion” and “introduced merchandise concepts to customers” changed in the late 20th century to a collection of brands. Agins quotes one upscale shopper who “was appalled when she discovered $19.99 Nine West shoes displayed right next to $350 Chanels” in her favorite department store that was compromising its image of elite fashion. Make an item look special and it takes on the perception of higher value.

-Next comes knowledge that is worth more than price. Don’t believe it? Think of items you bought because the sales person impressed you with a deep understanding of the product. That was worth more than price. I personally experienced this lesson when I did a trade show with a colleague. I told my customers the fashion jewelry was a real value at the price. His sales person painted a word picture of the wholesale fashion jewelry with the season’s apparel and wrote more orders without the customers even knowing the price.

Knowledge is knowing the trends and knowing the item. Consumers trust a well-informed source and when you know what is today’s style and why it looks right on the customer, you remove the burden of choice from the buyer.

Knowledge today goes deeper because classic trends in fashion jewelry bring gemstone components, shell, Murano style glass, Millefiore, and more to jewelry designs. A story is worth volumes in explaining glass jewelry and knowledge of gemstones that removes the doubt about whether it is real. Don’t be overwhelmed about understanding the trends and knowledge of today’s components because everything is detailed in a report, Wholesale Fashion Jewelry-The Magic of Trends (find a link to the report at the foot of this article).

-Finally there are benefits. Think of benefits as vision-what the customer envisions. Anyone that buys fashion jewelry wants to make a positive statement. They want a look that is flattering and appropriate. So like the car commercial running on the radio, features describe the details like length, color, texture, and shape while benefits say “matches apparel while complementing your complexion”, “draws attention to your slender neck”, or “creates a youthful look that is so you”. The old adage of sell the sizzle, not the steak, gets to the point. Pick the right item for the customer, be sincere, and sell the sizzle.

Solving Online Fashion Shopping Problems

Every woman has been enamored with pop media images of Carrie Bradshaw and her closet full of stilettos, gazing lovingly into a store’s display window that displays her current obsession – designer shoes, and having a hard time with an attire because it is some vintage creation of a dead French designer. Ah, what women would do to have that ideal of tagging six shopping bags on a windy afternoon with three of your girlfriends, hopping from one store to another and enjoying some retail therapy. Alas, this only happens on TV. When a girl is stuck in a town with a center that has a diner, a gas station and a supermarket, there is simply no way shopping for loop earrings or 3-inch pumps, or even wholesale sunglasses is easy.

But then, that is where online fashion comes in. Doing fashion, shopping online is an answered prayer for all sorts of people. There are those who don’t like the shopping experience. They think that shopping entails too much effort and money and feel that it is inconvenient for them to spend too much time on shopping. There are also people who love to shop, but are too busy with their daily lives, having to deal with family, work and other matters. Then, there are also those who, like the example given earlier, do not live in areas that resemble New York. There are just not a lot of stores in some places, and some avid shoppers have to drive for miles on end just to go to an outlet store that unfortunately, is not at all as glamorous as women shopping on TV. Besides, how can you take advantage of low prizes for bulk items like wholesale sunglasses when you keep on buying through actual stores?

Wherever you are in the world, online fashion, shopping makes it possible to gain access to merchandise from so many shops, brands and inventory. There used to be three matters that made a lot of shoppers uncomfortable with the idea of shopping for fashion online. First is the idea of items that do not fit. This concern is very crucial to fashion items because customers may suddenly discover that since they did not fit the items before purchasing them, they turn out not fitting well. That issue has been resolved by a majority of online fashion retailers as they now offer free returns and exchanges. The second concern is with regard to the length of time items are delivered. It used to be that online shoppers complain that by the time they receive their ordered items, the fashion is already ‘last season’. In the world of fashion, being timely is important as trends become passé all too quickly. Nowadays, though, online stores offer delivery times for as fast as three business days even on international addresses.

The last concern would be with regard to people who love online fashion, but live in obscure locations. Aside from times for delivery considerably slower, earlier online shops also charged exorbitant delivery charges especially to customers abroad. However, couriers nowadays have tie-ups with international delivery companies, making deliveries first to a US mailing address before shipping in bulk to international destinations. This process all in all makes delivery charges way more affordable for customers.

The Pros and Cons of Online Fashion Shopping

So let’s just break it down a bit to find out the Pros and Cons of it all so we can figure it out. So what things come to mind when it comes to comparing both, well let’s see;

Convenience

Pros: So you don’t have to drive off, take a bus or the train to your favorite store which that saves a bit of travel cash. You don’t really have to work around your job hours as you can probably shop from your smart phone on your break. Cons: It is less fun since it means you are not going to enjoy a trip to the mall. Also, sometimes when you go shopping you come up a bit short on cash to buy that cute sweater and you miss out on the convenience of borrowing money from a friend.

The Skinny: OK, this is a bit more of a Pro than a Con but that is still debatable, unless you are that friend who is always lending the money.

Store Layout

Pros: No physical layout means with a well design website you get to what you want when you want it. You will not be pressured by a store owner’s layout to dig through their preferred design to get to the brands you want.

Cons: It can be argued that the store layout is half the fun of visiting a local store. With all the multiple posters, sales messages and product placements you go into a store thinking you will only spend $80 but you come out with so much more.

The Skinny: This is probably an individual choice and to each their own on if they like store layouts or not.

Discreet Shopping Experience

Pros: No one needs to know what you are buying, when you are buying it, who you are buying it for, how much you are spending or where you went to buy it.

Cons: This sounds so lonely! Isn’t showing off to everyone what you are about to purchase half the fun? Plus you know the next day you can talk to your friends about the time you spent at the store looking at that cute skirt you almost purchased.

The Skinny: Unless you really enjoy the publicity of shopping in a local store, then the Pros have the edge here. But then again it does seem a bit lonely without having a store employee attend your needs.

Excellent Prices

Pros: With fewer overhead the items cost less to maintain in-stock so it is cheaper for the consumer to purchase. If you factor in that certain purchases can be exempt of taxes (depending on your state) and you also deduce the average cost of your transportation to the store, you will be saving a substantial amount shopping for your fashion selections. Cons: I beg to differ! You only really save on transportation costs if your purchase with free shipping, and most stores require a minimum purchase before that kicks in so unless you were planning to purchase their minimum to begin with it wasn’t an advantage. And even if it did save you money you still lost time, it can take several days to get the outfits you want after you have paid for them.

The Skinny: Better prices are a good argument that most people make for the Pros but it is a give and take where you accept the lower cost for a delay of delivery of fashion goods. So it comes down to balancing the choice of time vs. money most of the time.

Online Fashion Shopping – A Guide for the Modern Man

Online fashion shopping is gaining popularity all over the world. Retailers with internet presence are offering their clients with more choices through this platform. If you think about it, shopping online is better than going to the store. It is quick and convenient, and it is easier to browse through the different choices available. Some retailers also feature marked down items and seasonal sales for online shoppers.

What items should you expect when looking for men’s clothing online?

One great thing about shopping online is like being at the store without leaving the comfort of your home or office. You can browse through various outfit selections and simply click a button to add an item to your shopping cart. Here are some of the pieces you can expect to see from online retailers.

Suits

More retailers are offering suits in their line-up. It is the most elegant piece a man can wear; even some fashion experts say the suit defines the man. This is why it is important that it fits well and looks good on you. You have to think about quality – it should have the right cut and colour, and made from the right fabric.

The most common style today is the two-piece suit consisting of pants and a jacket. As for the fabric, wool is the perennial favourite and is a timeless classic. Wool is crease-resistant and drapes elegantly. It is a fabric that works and looks well even during hot summers. When doing online fashion shopping, look for retailers with custom suits featuring tailored cuts. Look into the quality of fabrics used as well as the overall look of the suit.

Shirts

A man can never have enough shirts. They are perhaps the most flexible item of clothing you can own. Long sleeves are great for formal or semi-formal use, and can be great casual wear as well. The same goes for short-sleeved button downs.

Find retailers with many design options when searching for men’s clothing online. Bold colours are great for suits. Plaid and chequered patterns, on the other hand, are classic and great for casual use. Every man should also have a collection of t-shirts and polos for basic everyday use. Be sure to buy a good mix of classic and trendy pieces.

Pants and denims

An ensemble is not complete without great pants. Most men limit themselves to denims. While there is no problem with that, a modern and fashionable man has other pieces in his closet. Look for retailers with a collection of dress pants, chinos, and denims. The days of having just blue, beige, and black pants are long gone. Spice up your wardrobe with the addition of other colours.

Fashionable Shopping Bags For Every Woman For Any Occasion

Shopping bags are very common and can be used not only for shopping but also for various other purposes, such as holding school text books, various cosmetics, diapers, and of course the groceries. These bags are actually considered all-around bags due to their multipurpose usage.

For example a woman can carry a fashionable shopping bag with her while keeping in it many things including the trusted cell phone and wallet. These bags have usually a few small inner compartments which are dutifully used by every woman owning one of these. Actually the more compartments, the more crevices to store things, the higher the chance of the bag being bought right away. Many bags also come with long handles and straps, allowing the fashionable shopping bags to be held on the shoulder.

Particularly nowadays with the new ecological movement in Europe and the rest of the western world, fashionable shopping bags, also called eco-shopping bags are very customary. Instead of buying a lot of totes each time when shopping, a multipurpose shopping tote allows any woman carry a lot of things in it. Just imagine prior when women had 5-6 different bags in her hands how difficult it was specially if one bag happened to fall from her hands. Now though the situation is different. These reusable bags are big enough to handle a lot of load and shopping and they are also money saver. This is because now you don’t have to keep buying bag after bag during shopping. Now all you need to do is take it with you on your way to the grocery store and fill it up with everything you need to buy.

These days the shopping totes can be easily called fashionable as they are made of several different materials, colors and styles. For example for a truly fashionable experience you can choose the leather bag which is modern and very suitable for the corporate environment. One made of a lighter material can be easily used to hold the running shoes, towels and other accessories when you are on your way to the gym. So no matter what you are using them for, fashionable shopping bags are great for every occasion.

Fashion Shopping – Then and Now

Shopping for something special, even as recently as ten years ago, was something that you did during a shopping trip into town. In some instances you ordered your special outfits from a printed mail order catalogue.

Nothing wrong with that at all, it’s just that ten years doesn’t seem that long. It doesn’t seem long enough to have witnessed an astonishing shift in social habits that the Internet has produced. So great is the impact of the Internet, that it is now possible to create an entire business empire dedicated to fashion shopping without the huge costs of having a high street presence, and in a fraction of the time.

Internet shopping is now an everyday occurrence for most of us, so it’s hard to believe that it’s only fourteen short years ago that the first Internet shopping transaction took place in the US, when a single compact disc was sold online. Sales have rocketed from that single ten or fifteen dollar purchase to this year’s estimated sales of over 45 billion pounds in the UK alone. Of that 45 billion pounds a massive proportion of that will be spent fashion shopping.

Quite where that leaves the traditional bricks and mortar stores is anyone’s guess. For you and me however, shopping for something special is now an activity without restriction. If you’re anyone in fashion or fashion retailing, then you’re online. Without a web presence you’re traditional fashion shopping public will forget you in an instant and they’ll spend their hard earned cash elsewhere.

So just what can you expect as a modern day keen fashion shopper? Well to begin with, there is choice like you’ve never experienced before. If you choose, you can still visit the high street and you can still order from a printed catalogue, but add to the mix the Internet and you have a whole new fashion shopping ballgame.

Even the staid old mail order catalogues have a website now; in fact it’s some of the more familiar mail order brands that are leading the way when it comes to website innovation. Many of these sites now offer some of the best names in fashion and they display them on their sites in some truly original ways. Online catwalk fashion shows, superior zoom and pan features and a broader range of sizes from petite to plus size, make your familiar old catalogues the first place to start your fashion shopping.

Clearly the Internet is more than a passing phase. Shopping online is here to stay and with every retailer worth their salt investing in this technology, you can bet your boots there’ll be more exciting innovations to follow.

What Should Matter When Looking For An Online Fashion Shop?

Online fashion shop stores have without doubt brought in lots of convenience to shoppers. From the comfort of your home or office, you can search for items that you need, purchase and have them delivered to a location that is most convenient for you. More and more people are relying on them to find what they want without the time and effort required when going to a storefront location.

Shoppers who want to look stylish and fashionable will most likely be looking for fashion stores from where they can get the latest and unique clothe designs, shoes, and other fashion accessories. With so many online fashion shops relating to fashion, it can’t be that hard for you to find the items that you need to keep your fashion sense in check. But to get the most pleasant experience with your online shopping there are a few things that should matter when selecting a online fashion shop.

1. Item categorization – The truth is that some stores may deal only with women outfits and accessories whereas others may be exclusively for men. Some may deal more with sportswear while others may do more casual or formal items. When looking for the best online fashion shops for your fashion needs, it is important to make sure that it does accommodate your needs. If for instance you are a plus size woman, you may want to ensure that indeed the shop does offer fashion items for plus size women, so your chances of finding exactly what you are looking for remain high.

2. Variety – A good online fashion shop is one that offers a huge variety of fashion items so you can find almost everything you need in one place. For instance, apart from dealing with clothes, a shop that also offers fashion accessories like belts, wallets, earrings, handbags and others may be more convenient to any shopper. When you are able to find everything you need in one place, it even becomes very easy to match the items up for that unique look that you may be looking for.

3. Location – Online shopping has broken geographical barriers, but there may still be a need to consider where exactly it is located. This is especially important if you wish for your items to reach you faster. They rely on shipping and delivery services to ensure their customers get items purchased right where they are. The further away the store is from you the longer it may take for the purchased fashion items to be delivered. The rule here is to ensure that the time it takes for the items to be delivered will not in any way interfere with your needs.

4. Brands included – When it comes to fashion, there are so many brands and designers and some customers may want to stick with items from specific brands or designers. If this matters to you, then you may want to check out what brands the online fashion shop stocks before you even start your search for items you need.

How Does Fashion Influence the Lives of Students?

This is an era of fashion and fashion is very influential to our lives. In fact, it adds diversity to our lives by offering an aspect of enthusiasm to strive for something new and different, otherwise it would be a monotonous life if we were supposed to dress up and act in the same manner.

Fashion is an expression of a distinctive style particularly in clothing, footwear, accessories or makeup. It belongs to the style of doing something, looking different and dealing with others. It encircles a wide range of categorization like behavior, speech, actions, manners and lifestyle. There is much intellectual discussion over fashion and clothing and their importance within present day society. Fashion and clothing can be defined as many things that hold our society together. Fashion can be defined as an existing norm or style of dress, manners and way of socializing, whereas clothing is defined as garments collectively. If fashion and clothing were eliminated from our lives there would be no room for individuality and the world’s population would be the same. There also would be a loss of the distinctions between social classes, which was much defined in the 18th century but is still present today. The eradication of fashion and clothing would also change the dynamics of the social world and social relationships.

Mod, short form of ‘modern’, refers to a youth lifestyle that came out from London during 1960s and quickly spread to other parts of the world. Being fashionable is not only desirable but also satisfying. It is very usual that the young students get attracted to fashion the most and start following the trends instantly so fashion influences our youth strongly. Fashion continually has an impact on the society. It affects our views and attitude towards social culture. We introduce new ways of lifestyle through fashion and create awareness within ourselves to reinstate a new line of customs. It is a leading social statement for students to make an outside appearance to their social circle. Malcolm Barnard says in his book Fashion as Communication, “Fashion and clothing have always been explained as forms of communication” (39). Students use fashion to exchange their feelings and beliefs. They use fashion as a way of social contact with reference to scrutiny for all sorts of people. Fashion is a way of communication to convey with the world what their personality really says.

The decade of 1920 is called the Age of Flaming Youth because of its wild and jazzy expression. In this period the energy of youth was set free in a new way and no style seemed too ridiculous to become a high fashion. Our world has globalized. Celebrities play very important role in the lives of youth. Students look up to their favorite icons to keep themselves up to date. While watching television or using internet, they can easily be attracted by a variety of fashionable concepts. Moreover, the students idealize their favorite celebrities and they always have a desire to look like them so they do their best to imitate the appearance and lifestyle of their idols. They are trying to grasp all the existing fashion from their society to enhance their personality. Whenever they socialize, they talk about new things which could be adapted. They use non-natural way of expression, speech and mannerism in their routine lives which is relatively artificial.

In my point of view, there are two categories i.e. positive and negative impact of fashion on students.

The fashion in our society has a lot of negative impact on students. They only think about new fashion and this result in spending of a large amount of money. Therefore, they are not able to become aware of other important needs of life. It always distracts them from studies. Once a style or fashion gets in a trend, it is instantly chased by student community regardless of the fact that how much hassle it leads to. On the other hand they are caught in the confusion of fashion due to impact of society. To follow a certain fashion, one has to adopt some actions and to do so some students go beyond their limits just to attract their surroundings. Eventually they become hopeless instead of being ingenious and suffered from depression for being within fashion. On the other hand, it is also a thought that the money spending on Fashion could be spent for various other purposes like charity and helping the poor.

Fashion creates an inaccessible standard for students. They all want to be attractive and glamorous like the celebrities on television or in magazines hence they spend a lot of time and money just to build up a good impression on people around them. However, they fail to make a statement most of the time that leads to a low self esteem. It also creates a clash of thoughts between them and their friends that may lead to jealousy factor and as a result ruin their relationship with friends. Students start judging people by their outlook appearance and those who cannot spend sufficient amount on their outward look, eventually become persecuted which decreased their confidence level to certain extent.

Students who give more concentration to fashion are generally least conscious about their studies. They think that by adopting certain fashion trends, they will achieve certain distinction among the peers therefore they start giving less importance to their academic careers.

There are some positive points of being fashionable as well. For instance, when teenagers feel good because of the way they look, it gives a high sense of worth and confidence in their personalities. Moreover they feel more independent and acceptable in a social context. If students follow a certain trend, it facilitates them to recognize their own personalities by meeting different people from the society with the same interests and sense of style. Wearing trendy clothes shows a person’s status. People assume a person more progressive if he is wearing fashionable clothes. Malcolm Barnard says in his book Fashion as Communication, “Fashion and clothing have always been explained as forms of communication”

Students eventually come to know that it’s not good for them to follow or imitate others all the time. Instead, they should learn how to be innovative and make their own sense of style. That helps them to be more strong, independent and imaginative. Fashion is the name of expressing oneself. It proves that the people have liberty to feel comfortable about themselves and that results in a more successful and prosperous society.

Fashion is a form of art and because art is beneficial to society so same goes for fashion as well.Fashion is a big reason for companies to invest more into the expansion of latest clothing, trends, and better living. We cannot disagree with the fact that fashion has a significant place on the life of every student. At times, it can be the source of things that make the life more pleasant. On the other hand, it can be destructive for the lives of certain people. So it’s better to keep yourself modernized with fashion but if it is damaging your academic performance by any mean, you should keep yourself away from that. Generally, fashion can be entertaining, exciting and harmless. Fashion is a money making method that can provide employment to thousands of people.

There should be stability in the lives of students while pursuing fashion. They should be aware of the fact that the fashion within limits is admirable but when the limits are crossed, they have to face many problems. Their prime responsibility is to fill up themselves with the asset of knowledge instead of running after the wildness of deceptive fashion world. There should be a right balance between being fashionable and getting away from our roots. Students should know the fact that they have maximum time to indulge themselves to the world of lavishness after they completed their studies. So they should give their utmost devotion to education presently for time and tide waits for none.
